Friday Four (12/30/11)

1. This is my last post of 2011. It's kind of a sad thought. Like all the others, this year had its good and its bad. On the one hand, this was the year that I signed with Beth. On the other, this was the year I dealt with a lot of personal issues. (Then again, aren't there personal issues no matter what year it is? Sigh.) I'm looking forward to 2012, even if it's believed the world will end soon. There are going to be some damn good books, and I'm crossing my fingers that this will be the year certain dreams come true.

2. I actually heard about this song the day it was released, but for those of you who might not have come across it, listen. It's a new single from Taylor Swift for The Hunger Games movie. People are speculating whether or not this is the song they will play during a certain someone's death... Anyway, I love it. It's haunting and beautiful and perfect. That is all.

3. Writing a sequel to a book is so much harder than writing the first. I actually thought it would be easier, since I know these characters better than I know myself. I've already created the world and the plot. What makes a sequel so harder is maintaining all those plot lines, keeping the pacing just right, and making sure the voice does not change (unless there's a reason for it). This is the first time I've ever attempted a series, so it's definitely a learning experience. I'm enjoying the challenge. What has your experience been with writing sequels?

4. The new semester is starting again in ten days. How did that happen? I'm not sure I'm ready. But I do need to let you guys know that the blogging is going to be another challenge. I'm working thirty-six hours a week, I have a full class load, and I need to keep writing no matter what. So Kelsey might be a little absent, a little frayed, just warning you now. Prepare yourselves. Wait, I didn't mean to scare you off! I'm not that scary. When I'm stressed I just eat more chocolate and twitch more. That's all.

Well, I'm off. See you soon, and Happy New Year!
