Friday Four (9/23/2011)

1. I realize I wasn't around very much this month. I could give you a bunch of plausible excuses - like the fact that school has started again or that I'm swamped at work or that I've been consumed with revisions - but I don't want to bore you. (See how I did that?) Seriously, though. This month was nuts. I was in a little fender bender and then there was a gas leak in my house. Hopefully October will be kinder to me. Dang, I probably just jinxed myself. Sigh.

2. Since I finally got those revisions done, I've been working on an old manuscript. While the writing makes me cringe, it's definitely taught me that there's always potential in going back to an idea once abandoned. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to open those documents from way back in the day, like ninth grade. (Clicks and reads first page of super ancient story.) Ouch. Then again...

3. Sometimes I catch myself naturally thinking negatively. And sometimes I learn lessons from the dumbest things. Today I downloaded a song on iTunes but it didn't seem to work. I cursed and thought about making a big deal out of it. But after messing with the computer for a minute, I found the song in a folder, waiting to be downloaded. Oh. I think I have some work to do...

4. Something random that might make your Friday a little brighter. Today as I was driving home I passed a man biking on the side of the road. He was heavier, and he was really struggling. His shirt was drenched in sweat. Which is enough to make a normal person cranky and want to hate the world a little bit, right? Wrong. In this situation, at least. This particular man, with all his puffing and perspiration, had a huge smile stretched across his jolly face. He wasn't listening to music, he wasn't with anyone. He was just on his bike and... smiling. So I had to smile, too. Are you smiling?
